Granma Schaefer’s Joke

Our Granma wasn’t renowned for her sense of humour. But, she did have one joke that became a classic amongst her grandchildren. It goes like this:

‘Children, a funny thing happened when I opened my fridge the other day.’

We look at her, wondering what happened.

‘There was a rabbit sitting on the cheese. I was so surprised I asked him what he was doing there.’

We look at Granma with serious faces and wonder.

‘The rabbit replied to me, saying, “I’m tired, so I’m westing in your fridge.”’

Her grandchildren are flummoxed, but Granma continues.

‘What are you resting in my fridge for, Mr Rabbit?’

Do you know what the rabbit said to me then, children?

He said, ‘Well, it’s a Westinghouse, isn’t it, Madam?’

Granma looks around at us and waits and then the penny drops.

Her grandchildren giggle and smile - Granma smiles as well.
